Daren Smith was named president and chief investment officer of University of Toronto Asset Management.
Mr. Smith replaced William Moriarty, who in March announced his retirement, , the university announced Sept. 2 in a news release.
John Switzer, board chairman, had been interim president and CIO.
Mr. Smith was managing director at UTAM, focusing on portfolio construction and manager selection. His previous duties will be assumed by Chuck O'Reilly and Yasir Mallick, directors, manager selection and portfolio construction, and Leon Lu, senior analyst, manager selection and portfolio construction, said Althea Blackburn-Evans, university spokeswoman. All three will report to Mr. Smith.
UTAM oversees C$6.5 billion ($5 billion) in university pension fund and endowment assets.
