Sanghoon Lee joined TPG Capital Asia as a partner, tasked with leading the global alternatives firm's investment activities in South Korea.
The Hong Kong-based position is a new one, said a spokeswoman for TPG. A TPG news release said Mr. Lee “will assist in sourcing and managing new private equity investments” for the firm in South Korea.
Mr. Lee comes to TPG from Morgan Stanley Private Equity in Seoul, where he served as managing director and head of Korea, overseeing a team of roughly 10 investment professionals. A spokesperson for Morgan Stanley confirmed that he will be leaving the firm. An internal appointment of new leadership in Korea will be announced shortly, he said.
In the news release, Tim Dattels, managing partner of TPG Capital Asia, called Korea “a country poised for growth with untapped opportunities across multiple industries.”
