Michael Turok was named a managing director and head of the “Strats” team within Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s quantitative investment strategies division, said an internal memo obtained by Pensions & Investments.
Beginning in the fourth quarter, Mr. Turok will oversee GSAM’s roughly 25-person QIS Strats team with a focus on enhancing its data applications, including expanding its capabilities in natural language processing and other machine-learning techniques. He will be based in New York.

Mr. Turok was head of fixed-income quantitative portfolio strategies at BlackRock. It could not be learned by press time if he was replaced; BlackRock spokeswoman Olivia Offner could not be immediately reached for comment.
GSAM’s quantitative investment strategies division has roughly $80 billion in assets under management.
