Erik Jan van Bergen was appointed head of pensions for Europe at AXA Investment Managers, a spokeswoman said.
The position is a new. Mr. van Bergen, who will start in September, will be responsible for leading the firm's fiduciary management business and will assist with the development of AXA IM's pension business throughout Europe.
His “extensive institutional experience, including with insurance clients, and seniority make him a highly valuable addition to the team on the ground in the Netherlands, but also to our global client solutions team,” said Daniel Leon, global head of client solutions development at AXA IM, in a news release.
Mr. van Bergen previously was chief investment officer at ACTIAM. A spokeswoman for ACTIAM was unavailable to comment on whether he has been replaced.
AXA IM also announced that John Stainsby joined the firm as head of its U.K. client group. Mr. Stainsby replaces Irshaad Ahmad, who joined Allianz Global Investors as head of institutional Europe at the end of last year.
Mr. Stainsby is responsible for managing the U.K. distribution efforts across both institutional and wholesale businesses. He previously was head of U.K. institutional clients at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. A spokeswoman for the firm said he was replaced by Paul Farrell.
AXA IM has €666 billion ($739.2 billion) in assets under management.
