Orange County Employees Retirement System, Santa Ana, has launched a search for a strategic portfolio and risk consultant.
There is no incumbent. The firm would be a conferring investment consultant to OCERS’ new general investment consultant, Meketa Investment Group, which was hired in May.
The new consultant would provide “a ‘second opinion’ and ‘system oversight’ function. The purpose of this RFP is to explore the feasibility, optimal structure and potential cost of such a separate engagement,” the RFP said.
As part of the process, OCERS officials will explore the feasibility of consolidating certain ancillary consulting functions into this new role with a focus on risk advisory services.
OCERS’ specialist consultants are hedge fund consultant Aksia, real estate consultant RVK and risk adviser and portfolio analytics consultant BlackRock.
OCERS officials also plan to launch a real estate consultant RFP later in 2016.
The strategic portfolio and risk consultant RFP is on OCERS’ website. Proposals are due July 1. Finalist interviews and potential decision could be as early as July 27.
Girard Miller, chief investment officer of the $12.6 billion pension fund, declined to comment.
