Thomas Williams was named assistant chief investment officer at the $10.3 billion San Diego County Employees Retirement Association, said Mary Montgomery, spokeswoman, in an email.
Mr. Williams will start work at SDCERA on May 27. It is a new position added as a result of the pension plan's shift to an in-house chief investment officer model.
Mr. Williams will assist in overseeing the investment operation for the pension fund's public investments. He is currently a portfolio manager for the $2 billion City of San Diego Treasurer's Pooled Investment Fund and other bond construction and reserve funds.
Separately, the board at its May 19 meeting is scheduled to name three finalists in its search for a general investment consultant. Staff recommended naming Aon Hewitt Investment Consulting, Pension Consulting Alliance and RVK. The board could make a selection as early as its June 16 meeting. SDCERA had issued an RFP on April 6.
