Bryan Lewis was named CIO of Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System, Harrisburg, said Pamela Hile, spokeswoman for the $25 billion pension fund.
He will replace Thomas F. Brier, who announced his plans to retire on June 24.
Mr. Lewis will report directly to the PSERS board and David E. Durbin, executive director.
Executive search firm Korn Ferry assisted in the search for a new CIO.
Mr. Lewis is currently executive director of the $20 billion Illinois State Universities Retirement System, Champaign. A SURS news release said the pension fund is opening a nationwide search for a replacement.
