With a diminished opportunity set and more conservative asset allocations, corporations have continued to lower their assumed rate of return for their defined benefit plans. The average estimated rate of return has dropped 127 basis points over the past decade. The median estimated rate of return in 2015 was 7.4%. The lowest estimated return was 3.6%.
