Ten members of the S&P 500 had $950 million or more of monetary impact from various legal actions and settlements. Goldman Sachs and other financial firms led the list of legal and settlement expenses. Over the past five fiscal years, J.P. Morgan has had more than $25 billion in legal, litigation and settlement costs. In fiscal 2015, S&P 500 companies had a net settlement expense of $22.6 billion.
