Nine of the top 10 ESG ranked countries were in Europe. The countries scored highly in environmental, social and governance factors. Sweden was ranked No. 1, with a high 90-percentile rank in all three factors.
The United States ranked 27th out of 187 countries. The U.S. percentile rank in governance was 97.8%. The U.S. scored poorly in social factors, with a 58% percentile rank. The rankings are based on 42 equally weighted key performance indicators. Britain ranked 11th, Canada ranked 16th and Japan ranked 18th.
