John McCareins, was named head of Asia-Pacific, asset management, at Northern Trust, spokeswoman Camilla Greene said in an e-mail.
Mr. McCareins, managing director and senior vice president at Northern Trust Asset Management, will be based in Hong Kong and will report to Wayne Bowers, chairman, CEO and chief investment officer of Northern Trust Asset Management, Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific, and William Mak, executive vice president and head of Northern Trust in the Asia-Pacific.
Mr. McCareins replaces Bo Kratz, who left the firm late last year to join Conning in Hong Kong as CEO, Asia-Pacific.
Mr. McCareins was previously head of the retirement practice outsourced CIO business within Northern Trust’s multimanager solutions group. A replacement for the position, based in Chicago, will be named “in due course,” Ms. Greene said.
