Mats Andersson is resigning as CEO of AP4, Stockholm, after almost 10 years with the pension fund.
Mr. Andersson has notified the board, said a statement on the website of the 310 billion Swedish kronor ($36.7 billion) pension fund on Tuesday.
He said this is a natural time to pass on the baton to someone else, and that he is looking forward to new challenges — although not in an operational role, said the statement. The statement said Mr. Andersson has an opportunity to work more actively with the Global Challenges Foundation, which works to raise awareness of the threats to humanity, in particular, climate change. Mr. Andersson said that is attractive because of the work AP4 has done on climate-related issues.
The statement said Mr. Andersson intends to remain as CEO until a replacement is found, should the board wish.
Details on a search for a replacement could not be learned by press time. Mr. Andersson could not be reached for further comment by press time.
