Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, on Tuesday said it's considering making a bid for the London Stock Exchange Group.
ICE has not approached the group's board with an offer, it said in a news release, and no decision has been made as to whether an offer will be made or what the terms would be.
Morgan Stanley and Moelis & Co. are assisting ICE on any potential deal.
ICE's announcement comes a week after LSE Group and Deutsche Bourse said the two companies are in detailed negotiations to conduct “a merger of equals.”
In a statement on LSE Group's investor relations website, the group said it “notes the announcement from ICE” and confirmed it has not received a proposal from ICE. Meanwhile, LSE Group said it would continue to pursue a merger with Deutsche Bourse.
