Plan sponsors got a bit of Form 5500 filing clarity in the highway bill passed by Congress on Thursday that was headed for President Barack Obama’s signature Friday.
The legislation repeals a provision enacted in July as part of a short-term highway funding measure that changed the maximum extension for 5500 filings to 3½ months from 2½ months.
Undoing that keeps the filing deadline in sync with those for filing premiums with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., “potentially avoiding confusion and late filings,” a Mercer analysis said.
