California Public Employees’ Retirement System, Sacramento, hired three firms to assist with a study of carbon emissions emitted by companies in the $296.7 billion pension fund’s public equity portfolio, spokesman Joe DeAnda said.
The firms, South Pole Group, Trucost and MSCI ESG Research, will all provide the pension fund with carbon emission estimates coming from companies in CalPERS $176.9 billion equity portfolio.
The information will be used to help CalPERS officials engage companies on reducing emissions.
