Mark Anson was named chief investment officer at Commonfund, spokesman Keith Luke said.
Beginning in January, Mr. Anson replaces Commonfund’s hedge fund strategies group CEO, A. Nicholas De Monico, who has been serving as interim CIO since Rick Nelson left the firm in February. Mr. De Monico will continue in his hedge fund position.
Mr. Anson will serve on the firm’s operating committee and will chair the investment policy and asset allocation committees. He will report to Catherine Keating, president and CEO.
Mr. Anson is currently CIO of the Robert Bass Family Office. It could not be learned by press time whether a replacement has been found. He previously served as CIO of the $296.2 billion California Public Employees’ Retirement System, Sacramento; CIO of the £40.2 billion ($68.5 billion) BT Pension Scheme, London; and president of Nuveen Investments.
Commonfund managed $25.6 billion in assets as of March 31.
Executive recruiting firm Prince Houston Group assisted Commonfund with the search.
