Joseph Nichols was named president of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries on Tuesday.
ASPPA, one of four organizations of the American Retirement Association, represents plan administrators. The announcement was made at the ASPPA national conference in National Harbor, Md.
Mr. Nichols is a senior director with FTI Consulting's pension consulting services group, based in Savannah, Mo. He provides actuarial consulting to defined benefit plans of all sizes and is a board trustee for The Actuarial Foundation.
Mr. Nichols said the organization's primary missions are government affairs, continuing education and professional standards. ASPPA is developing a new education program for entry-level plan administrators, and working at the state level as states consider new retirement initiatives for their private-sector workers. “We want to make sure that they don't put the private system at a disadvantage,” Mr. Nichols said in an interview.
