Patrick D. Fleming was named chief investment officer of the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board, Cheyenne, said a news release from Mark Gordon, Wyoming state treasurer and member of the board.
Mr. Fleming replaces Michael Walden-Newman, who left in December to become state investment officer at the Nebraska Investment Council, Lincoln, which manages $22 billion in assets.
Mr. Fleming is currently a professor in the college of business, MBA program at the University of Wyoming, Cheyenne. He also oversees the University of Wyoming Student Portfolio Management Program and previously held positions at Barclay Investments, Pinnacle World Investments, Lehman Brothers and Salomon Brothers.
The Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board oversees the $6 billion Permanent Mineral Trust Fund, $2.8 billion Common School Permanent Land Fund and five other funds. The board also oversees $5.5 billion in state operating funds, which by state law invest in only cash and fixed income.
Mr. Gordon did not immediately return a phone call seeking further information and Mr. Fleming could not be immediately reached.
