Sue Walton, a Chicago-based defined contribution consultant for Towers Watson, was named a senior defined contribution specialist at Capital Group.
The position is new.
Ms. Walton said in an interview that joining Capital Group gives her “an opportunity to look outside of the consulting business where I could have more of an impact” in the DC marketplace.
Ms. Walton will remain in Chicago and cover Midwestern states for Capital Group, which has been expanding its defined contribution efforts in recent years.
In November 2013, Capital Group hired John Doyle, formerly an independent DC plan consultant, to cover the Eastern U.S. with the same title as Ms. Walton. In September 2013, Capital Group hired Toni Brown, formerly of Mercer, as a senior defined contribution specialist responsible for the Western U.S.
Like Ms. Brown and Mr. Doyle, Ms. Walton will work with Capital Group sales force members, sponsors, DC consultants and intermediaries. The goal is to “drive better outcomes for participants,” she said.
Ms. Walton had been a director at Towers Watson Investment Services and a member of the defined contribution steering committee, which develops investment strategies.
“We are not replacing Sue’s role directly, but we are always in the market for good talent and indeed have recently added DC experience to our team,” said Steve Carlson, head of investment, Americas, for Towers Watson, in an e-mail. “We are also seeking to grow this business to meet client demand, so we are having active discussions with a range of potential candidates.”
