Stephen King can make anything scary, even retirement savings.
Appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Sept. 11, the talk show host asked whether Mr. King can make anything scary. The acclaimed horror writer said yes, prompting Mr. Colbert to suggest the author write a horror thriller about a man who hasn't saved enough for retirement. Mr. King said such a story would need a boogeyman character.
The pair immediately began brainstorming a story in which a strange boogeyman with blondish hair and a pumpkin-orange complexion inexplicably rises to importance with the backing of a satanic organization, intent on taking everything from retirement accounts.
A scary story indeed.
