Larry Hatheway joined GAM as group chief economist, a spokesman said.
The position is new. Mr. Hatheway works closely with Graham Wainer, group head of investments-multiasset class solutions and its investment team. He helps to determine the global asset allocation strategy for clients. Mr. Hatheway is also a resource for GAM's individual investment teams.
“(Mr. Hatheway) will be a tremendous asset to GAM and to our clients,” said Alexander Friedman, group CEO, in a news release. “Increasingly, clients look not only for investment solutions and asset allocation decisions, but also deep insight into market dynamics. (His) experience and stellar reputation will ensure that we bolster our multiasset offering and continue to build on GAM's reputation as a home for some of the leading investors on our industry.”
Mr. Hatheway was previously managing director and chief economist at UBS Investment Bank, the news release said.
GAM has $132.8 billion in assets under management.
