John Melvin was named managing director and head of portfolio management at Hartford Investment Management Co., spokesman Thomas Hambrick said.
Mr. Melvin replaces Mark Niland, who retired earlier this year.
Effective Sept. 14, Mr. Melvin will oversee all of the firm’s portfolio management capabilities, which includes parent company The Hartford’s general account. He will report to Brion Johnson, president of HIMCO.
Mr. Melvin was managing director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and chief investment officer of its global insurance asset management business. He was replaced by Matt Armas, a managing director and portfolio manager, said Michael Siegel, global head of insurance asset management at GSAM.
