Rich McHugh on Tuesday was named vice president of Washington affairs for the Plan Sponsor Council of America.
Mr. McHugh, an employee benefits lawyer and partner with law firm Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, has served on PSCA’s legal and legislative committee for 30 years, and recently joined the group’s board of directors.
The position was formerly held by Ed Ferrigno, who retired in March 2014. Since then, PSCA’s Washington interests have been represented by McGuireWoods Consulting.
Mr. McHugh was appointed to the position “because we felt that bringing a person back on staff and having a personal touch for our members was a better approach,” spokeswoman Hattie Greenan said in an interview.
Steve McCaffrey, chairman of PSCA’s board of directors, praised Mr. McHugh in a statement released by the Chicago-based group. “His vast knowledge of the defined contribution system, as well as related employee benefits programs, combined with his knowledge of PSCA and its interactions in Washington will be a tremendous asset to PSCA and, most importantly, to its members.”
