Michael W. Smith will retire as executive director of the $1.24 billion Omaha (Neb.) School Employees Retirement System, effective Dec. 31, Mr. Smith said in an e-mail.
The retirement system’s board of trustees, in conjunction with Omaha Public Schools, will search for a new executive director.
Interested candidates are invited to send their information to the pension fund at 3215 Cuming St., Omaha, NE, 68131. A hiring decision is anticipated in the fourth quarter.
Mr. Smith was appointed executive director in March 1992. He joined the retirement system in 1989 as assistant administrator and was the retirement system’s first employee. Until 1989, the retirement system was managed as a department of the school district by school district personnel.
