Cambridge Associates’ U.S. Private Equity index and U.S. Venture Capital index gained 11.2% and 21.5%, respectively, in 2014.
In the fourth quarter, the private equity benchmark gained 0.8%, while the venture capital index gained 9.9%.
Cambridge Associates noted in its Q4 commentary that that annual capital distributions were the highest in the history of its private equity index, as fund managers returned $153.5 billion to limited partners.
Venture capital returns for the year, they noted, were led by three major sectors: software, health care and IT -- which posted annual returns of 52.4%, 33.3% and 22.1%, respectively.
