MSCI's InvestorForce Plan Universes had a median net return of -0.16% in the second quarter.
The median return gross of fees for all plans was -0.07% in the three months ended June 30.
Annualized net returns for the one-, three- and five-year periods ended June 30 were 2%, 9.11% and 9.33%, respectively.
Taft-Hartley defined benefit plans posted positive returns in the quarter (a median 0.27%, net of fees). Endowments and foundations' returns were relatively flat, -0.03%. Public defined benefit plans had a median net return of -0.10% and corporate DB plans, -1.21%.
The Barclays Capital U.S. Government/Credit index was down 2.1% in the quarter, while the Russell 3000 gained 0.14% and the MSCI ACWI ex-U.S. was up 0.71%.
