Atsushi Saito will join KKR Japan as non-executive chairman of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.'s business in Japan, effective Aug. 1, the company announced Wednesday.
KKR Japan's previous chairman, Shusaku Minoda, retired at the end of 2014, but a Hong Kong-based spokeswoman for the private equity firm declined to describe Mr. Saito as a replacement in the chairman's role.
Mr. Saito stepped down in June as group CEO, president and representative executive officer of Japan Exchange Group, the listed holding company for Japan's stock exchanges in Tokyo and Osaka.
In a news release, Hiro Hirano, CEO of KKR Japan, said Mr. Saito's experience will help KKR “add value” for the company's partners, portfolio and investors.
