Paul Sweeting joined Legal & General Investment Management as head of research within the solutions group, Mr. Sweeting said.
The role is new, and Mr. Sweeting is based in London. He reports to Marcus Mollan, head of investment strategy at LGIM, which has £736.8 billion ($1.16 trillion) in assets under management.
“I will be involved in all sorts of research as it relates to asset management, for both institutional and retail investors,” Mr. Sweeting said in a telephone interview. “I'll also be leveraging what (parent group Legal & General) has to offer more broadly. LGIM has a broad range of products, but being able to link these to what we have in (the) L&G retirement (unit) on the annuities side, for example, is a great opportunity. Pension schemes are looking to derisk, and people now have the ability to draw down. I will be looking at how we can bring those solutions to institutions and individuals.”
Mr. Sweeting said he also will be involved in LGIM's work outside of the U.K. “Pension funds across the globe are at different stages of development, and I will be trying to help them meet their objectives,” he said.
Mr. Sweeting was previously European head of the strategy group at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. A spokeswoman confirmed his departure, and said JPMAM is seeking a replacement.
