California and Texas received the most private equity investment in 2014, the third straight year the states have topped the list, according to data released Tuesday by the Private Equity Growth Capital Council.
PEGCC said private equity firms invested more than $486 billion in U.S.-based companies in 2014, up 9.7% from 2013.
Private equity firms invested $56.4 billion in 385 California-based companies in 2014, $2.4 billion higher than a year earlier.
Business services and consumer sectors attracted the majority of private equity investments in 2014, pulling in 29% and 22%, respectively, of the overall total.
