Market risk watchers can now see some of the same information provided to members of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and other regulators by the Treasury Department's Office of Financial Research.
A new interactive online version of OFR's Financial Stability Monitor offers a high-level summary of five areas of risk: macroeconomic, market, credit, funding and liquidity, and contagion.
OFR officials released their updated assessment June 24, reporting moderate risks to financial stability but continued concern about volatility. OFR Director Richard Berner noted three areas worth watching: “increased risk taking” in a low-interest-rate environment, more fragmented market liquidity, and more financial activity migrating to less transparent parts of the financial system.
The online version includes risk categories and subcategories, underlying risk indicators, and historical performance for forensic analysis. The Financial Stability Monitor, which will be updated periodically, is available on the OFR's website.
