Robert Westbrooks was named inspector general of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp.
Mr. Westbrooks had been deputy inspector general of the U.S. Small Business Administration since 2013. He is a certified public accountant, certified fraud examiner and lawyer with 20 years of federal law enforcement experience.
Mr. Westbrooks succeeded Rebecca Anne Batts, who left earlier this year. Deborah Stover-Springer has served as acting inspector general.
The inspector general oversees independent audits and investigations, and recommends procedural improvements, including fraud detection and prevention. Mr. Westbrooks will brief the PBGC board and Congress about program and operational deficiencies.
PBGC Acting Director Alice Maroni said in a statement that Mr. Westbrooks “brings a strong background that will help us become more effective and efficient.”
