Rupert Harrison will join BlackRock’s diversified strategies team as a managing director, a spokesman said.
The position is new, and Mr. Harrison will start in September.
Mr. Harrison will report to Adam Ryan, managing director and head of diversified strategies, and will be based in London.
Mr. Harrison will work with BlackRock partners to work on the multiasset strategies business.
He was involved in shaping the recent reforms to the U.K. defined contribution market, said an internal memo by BlackRock. He is former chief of staff to U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and chairman of the U.K.’s council of economic advisers.
A notice on the website of the U.K. government’s advisory committee on business appointments said Mr. Harrison’s appointment at BlackRock was subject to two conditions: that he not draw on “privileged information available to him as a Crown servant,” and that for two years from his last day of service, “he should not become personally involved in lobbying the U.K. government on behalf of his new company or its clients.”
