Mike Burns retired Monday as executive director/CEO of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corp., Juneau, because of health concerns.
Valerie Mertz was appointed acting executive director/CEO, said a news release from the $54 billion sovereign wealth fund. Ms. Mertz is chief financial officer.
Ms. Mertz will serve as acting executive director/CEO for 30 days while the board of trustees considers appointing an interim executive director/CEO, according to the news release. No one has been appointed to take over Ms. Mertz’s chief financial officer duties at this time, said spokeswoman Laura Achee in an e-mail.
A search for a permanent executive director/CEO could take several months, the release said.
Mr. Burns joined the permanent fund in August 2004.
An APFC spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for additional information.
