Kathleen E. Jacobs was named chief investment officer at New York University, spokesman John Beckman said.
Ms. Jacobs replaces Tina Surh, who left the university Dec. 31. Mr. Beckman did not know by press time where she went. Cynthia Nascimento, associate director of investments, handled the responsibilities in the interim.
Beginning Aug. 3, Ms. Jacobs will be responsible for the investment of NYU's $3.5 billion endowment, working in close consultation with the investment committee of the board of trustees. She will report to Martin Dorph, NYU's executive vice president for finance and information technology.
Ms. Jacobs was a managing director in the office of investments at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. It could not be learned by press time whether she was replaced; officials from New York-Presbyterian could not be reached by press time.
