Preqin says nearly half of hedge fund searches among the largest investors in such vehicles are currently focused on macro strategies. The research provider says political tensions and significant economic events (such as the end of quantitative easing) “have created many potential opportunities for macro investors,” fueling interest among the largest investors.
Preqin’s analysis examines institutional investors allocating at least $1 billion to hedge funds, those it dubs members of the ‘$1 billion club.’
Asked what strategies they are seeking over the next 12 months, 48% of those investors said macro strategies.
Long/short equity strategies were next (39%), followed by diversified and long/short credit (both 22%). Preqin said at this time last year that 50% of ‘$1 billion club’ investors favored long/short equity strategies.
