St. Louis Firefighters’ Retirement Plan hired Great Lakes Advisors to run $3 million to $5 million in active domestic smidcap equities, pending contract negotiations, said Janice Fairless, human resources specialist for the pension fund.
The $21 million pension fund issued an RFP in February. Previously, the pension fund had its assets in two Vanguard Group index mutual funds and recently hired its first active manager, Garcia Hamilton & Associates to run a $10 million active global fixed-income portfolio.
Other finalists were Kennedy Capital Management and SouthernSun Asset Management.
Investment consultant Dahab Associates assisted, and is presenting the results of an asset allocation study at the pension fund’s May 28 board meeting to determine further allocations.
