TPG is acquiring a majority stake in Cirque du Soleil from its founder, Guy Laliberte, with Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, Montreal, among those taking a minority stake in the entertainment firm, TPG and Caisse announced Monday.
Mr. Laliberte will hold a minority stake in Cirque du Soleil, as will Chinese investment firm Fosun, Caisse said in a news release.
Terms of the deal, including the size of each stake, were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.
As part of the agreement, Cirque du Soleil will keep its Montreal headquarters.
Nick Anstett, Canada-based spokesman for TPG, said the company would not provide further details on the deal. Officials at Caisse could not be immediately reached.
Caisse managed C$226 billion ($184.5 billion) in pension and other Quebec provincial and municipal assets.
