Marc Wyatt was named acting director of the SEC's office of compliance inspections and examinations, the agency announced Thursday.
Mr. Wyatt replaces Andrew Bowden, who announced earlier this week that he will be leaving the SEC and returning to the private sector at the end of the month.
Mr. Wyatt joined the Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2012 as a senior specialized examiner focused on hedge funds and private equity funds, a news release said.
Mr. Wyatt was named deputy director of OCIE in October 2014 and is the national co-coordinator of OCIE's private fund specialized working group, whose private fund examination unit he helped build. It could not immediately be learned whether anyone will take over for Mr. Wyatt in those roles or whether a search would be launched for a permanent OCIE director.
Before joining the SEC, Mr. Wyatt was a principal and senior portfolio manager at hedge fund firm Stark Investments in London.
