A hedge fund manager known as “Axe” will be one of the two main characters in a Showtime premium cable television drama set to debut in 2016.
The CBS Corp.-owned network announced March 24 it has ordered 12 episodes of the series “Billions,” which takes an “insider look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures,” one of whom is Bobby “Axe” Axelrod. Actor Damian Lewis will play the character, whom the network calls a “hedge fund king.”
The network did not specify the line of succession that led to Axe's coronation. His nemesis, “hard charging, politically savvy” U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, is portrayed by Paul Giamatti.
One of the writers and executive producers of the new series is “Too Big to Fail” author Andrew Ross Sorkin.
