Ronald O'Hanley was named president and CEO of State Street Global Advisors, effective in April, said SSgA spokeswoman Alicia Curran Sweeney.
Mr. O'Hanley will replace Scott Powers, who plans to retire later this year. Mr. O'Hanley left Fidelity Investments in February 2014 as president of asset management and corporate services. He was replaced by Charles Morrison. Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. O'Hanley was the president and CEO of what is now BNY Mellon Investment Management.
Mr. Powers will remain at the firm until August to ensure a smooth transition.
Mr. O'Hanley is on the board of directors of the $1 billion Boston Foundation and the Boston Public Library Foundation. The asset size of the library foundation could not be learned by press time. Mr. O'Hanley also serves on several other boards, including Unum Group, the Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and East/West Institute.
