Kelly Gottschalk was named executive director of the Dallas Police & Fire Pension System, said Don Rohan, interim retirement administrator.
It is a new position. Richard Tettamant , retirement administrator, resigned in June. In October, the pension fund board announced its decision to split that position into two roles — an executive director and chief investment officer.
Mr. Rohan, a former assistant administrator who was appointed interim administrator after Mr. Tettamant resigned, is retiring.
Ms. Gottschalk is expected to start in mid-April; Mr. Rohan said he expects to stay on for a few months to assist with the transition.
The CIO search is expected to start after Ms. Gottschalk joins the pension fund. It has not been determined whether an executive search firm will be hired. Existing staff will handle the CIO duties in the interim, Mr. Rohan said.
Ms. Gottschalk now serves as the deputy city manager of Tucson, Ariz., and is a member of the state’s pension task force. She also has served as the city’s chief financial officer and was responsible for the administration, operations and investment of the city’s $650 million defined benefit plan.
Executive search firm Hudepohl & Associates assisted with the executive director search.
