San Francisco City & County Employees' Retirement System is searching for a hedge fund consultant and/or hedge fund-of-funds manager, said an RFP posted on the $20 billion pension fund's website.
The pension fund has not determined whether to fill both or one of the positions. The consultant will have non-discretionary investment responsibilities, while the hedge fund-of-funds manager will have some discretion.
In February, the board approved a 5% allocation to hedge funds/absolute return. Pension fund officials anticipate building its hedge fund program over the next six to 18 months. Additional investment staff with relevant experience could be hired during that time.
The RFP is available on the pension fund's website. The deadline for electronic proposals is 5 p.m. PDT on April 24 and for hard copy proposals, 5 p.m. PDT on April 29.
Finalist interviews are tentatively scheduled for June and July, with a potential decision on Aug. 12.
Norm Nickens, retirement board secretary, was not available for additional information.
