Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin, committed a total of $950 million to five funds in February, said Juliana Fernandez Helton, a TRS spokeswoman, in an e-mail.
Four private equity funds received an aggregate $700 million in commitments:
- $300 million total to distressed debt funds Oaktree Opportunities Fund Xb ($200 million) and Oaktree Opportunities Fund X ($100 million), managed by Oaktree Capital Management;
- $250 million to TPG Growth III, which invests in small- and middle-market growth equity and buyout investment opportunities; and
- $150 million to Baring Asia Private Equity Fund VI, which targets growing midsize companies in Asia and is managed by Baring Private Equity Asia.
The $132 billion pension fund also committed $250 million to Ridgewood Energy Oil & Gas Fund III, which targets oil and gas investments in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
