I notice a lot of people write and talk about the pension cuts that are now allowed. However, not one person talks or writes about the people that run these pension plans.
Central States pension plans are the worst of the bunch. It has a man, Thomas Nyhan the executive director making over $600,000 a year plus benefits that will not be cut who helped run this pension plan. He will still be in charge.
So now the government is going to give this man and his staff a free hand to cut our pension. Really! I am 66 years old. I was a truck driver for more than 30 years. I am not a very educated man. I knew long ago I would never make too much money in this world. So I joined the Teamsters union, which was one of the biggest unions at that time with the best pension plan anyone could ask for. I thought if I could just hang in there for 30 years or more I would have a good pension along with my Social Security check. I could live OK in my golden years.
Boy, was I wrong. All the weekends, all the hours I worked and spent away from my family and all the games my kids played that I missed, now was for nothing.
We have been told our pension will be cut. It will take time but it will take place, even after UPS gave the Central States fund more than $6 billion to get out of our pension plan about two or three years ago. They must have known this was coming. But who cares about me or the other thousands of retirees they are getting ready to screw!
