Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System, Springfield, returned a net 7.1% for the year ended Dec. 31, matching the return of its benchmark.
Annualized net returns for the $44.8 billion pension fund were positive for all periods ended Dec. 31: three years, 12% (benchmark, 11.9%); five years, 10.1% (benchmark, 10%); and 10 years, 6.5% (benchmark, 6.6%), said a performance report by RVK, TRS’ investment consultant.
The best-performing asset classes for the one-year period were private equity, 19.6% (benchmark, 15.9%); real estate, 13.3% (benchmark, 11.8%); and domestic equity, 11.4% (benchmark, 12.6%), Rebecca A. Gratsinger, RVK’s CEO and TRS’ lead consultant, said at the pension fund’s investment committee meeting Wednesday.
