Lewis Kaufman joined Artisan Partners Asset Management as portfolio manager of what will be a new developing markets team that is scheduled to be launched in mid-2015, spokesman Mike Roos said Tuesday in an e-mail.
Mr. Kaufman will have the flexibility to build a team to assist him in the management of the strategy, an Artisan news release said. The new team at Artisan will represent the manager’s seventh autonomous investment team.
Mr. Roos said he could not provide additional information.
Mr. Kaufman was a portfolio manager for Thornburg Investment Management’s developing world fund and related institutional accounts. At Thornburg, Mr. Kaufman invested in developed markets firms with major economic ties to the developing world and invested at least 80% of its assets in equity securities and the remainder in debt issues of developing countries, said a report by William Blair analyst Christopher Shutler.
Ben Kirby and Charles Wilson were named portfolio managers on the developing world fund, replacing Mr. Kaufman, Thornburg said in a separate news release.
Mr. Kirby is also a co-portfolio manager on the Thornburg Investment Income Builder fund and Mr. Wilson manages the Thornburg international equity and international American depository receipt fund and strategies. Thornburg spokeswoman Rebecca Carrier confirmed the changes.
Artisan Partners had $107.9 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31.
