Outsourced CIO hirings, as reported by Pensions & Investments, totaled $77.5 billion over the past five years.
The Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust accounted for a third of that total when it hired Alan D. Biller and Associates in 2013 to run its $26 billion investment portfolio. Also in 2013 was Delta Air Lines' appointment of Wurts & Associates as outsourced CIO ($8.2 billion), as well as Lafarge U.K. Pension Plans' ($4 billion) appointment of Towers Watson as fiduciary manager.
Hirings reported by P&I in 2014 totaled $6.2 billion.
