Julie Koo will join UBS Global Asset Management in Hong Kong as the firm’s regional head of institutional distribution, Asia-Pacific, on April 13, said an internal note from the firm obtained by Pensions & Investments.
The position is new, spokesman Mark Panday said. He declined to provide details beyond what was included in the internal note.
Ms. Koo currently serves as a director and head of institutional business, Asia-Pacific at HSBC Global Asset Management (Hong Kong). HSBC spokesman Andy Chan confirmed Ms. Koo’s plans to depart but said no details on a replacement were immediately available.
The internal note said Ms. Koo will report to Rene Buehlmann, head of global asset management, Asia-Pacific. The note said with the new position “we aim to capture synergies and efficiencies across the region, focus on a more segmented approach with our institutional clients and ensure a consistent quality of both advice and coverage of our institutional partners.”
Ms. Koo will directly lead the institutional client relationship managers and business developers covering Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, offshore Korea and Taiwan, while the respective heads of the firm’s institutional business in Australia, Japan, South Korea and China will have “a dotted reporting line to her.”
