Venture capital firms raised $29.8 billion from 254 funds during 2014, according to data released Monday by the National Venture Capital Association. The aggregate amount raised was a 68.6% increase from 2013. The number of funds rose 22.7% from a year earlier.
It was the largest amount raised since 2008 when venture capital firms raised $25.1 billion.
The NVCA said 96 new venture capital funds raised $3 billion (a 76% increase in capital) – the remaining 158 funds closed were follow-on funds.
Andreessen Horowitz Fund IV LP was the largest fund raised in 2014 at $1.7 billion.
