Don Lindsey was named chief investment officer of the American Institutes for Research, spokesman Larry McQuillan said.
It is a new position for the organization, which conducts behavioral and social science research.
Mr. Lindsey will oversee a portfolio of about $125 million. Mr. McQuillan could not provide information on the kinds of investments Mr. Lindsey will oversee.
Mr. Lindsey previously served as chief investment officer of the $1.4 billion George Washington University endowment, Washington. His last day was Oct. 31.
Maralee Csellar, spokeswoman at GWU, declined to provide the reason for Mr. Lindsey's departure. However, the university announced earlier this year that it was moving to an outsourced CIO model for its endowment. Ms. Csellar said the search for an OCIO is nearing completion. She did not have an anticipated hiring date.
